A19 chip and AV1 streaming
Apple says the A19 delivers up to 50 percent faster CPU performance and up to twice the GPU performance of the previous Apple TV 4K, for quicker navigation and smoother animations. The new dedicated AV1 decoder lets streaming apps that use AV1 deliver high-quality video while using less bandwidth, which helps on slower or busier home connections.
Siri AI and hands-free voice control
The new Apple TV 4K is built around Siri AI, a new version of Siri powered by the next generation of Apple Intelligence, with a full-screen Siri experience for finding shows and movies. Three far-field microphones let you talk to Siri from across the room without picking up the remote, to start a show, play music or control smart home accessories. Siri AI is rolling out in English, and Apple notes usage limits may apply.
You do not need the new box to try Siri AI. Apple says it is available as a beta on Apple TV 4K (2nd generation or later) and at launch in English in the U.S., Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa and the U.K.
A Siri Remote you can find
The included Siri Remote (4th generation) works with Find My. If it slips into the couch, you can have it play a sound and locate it with Precision Finding on an iPhone.
Home hub and HomePod surround sound
Apple TV 4K also works as a home hub, so you can control smart home accessories through the Home app, including remotely. The new model can pair with up to four HomePod (2nd generation) or HomePod mini 2 speakers for a surround sound setup, a first for Apple TV.
How to watch DIRECTV on Apple TV 4K
The DIRECTV app is available on Apple TV. Download it from the App Store on the device, sign in with your DIRECTV account, and you can stream live channels and On Demand titles included in your package. Because the new model supports Ethernet and has a faster chip, it is a strong second-room option for DIRECTV STREAM customers or satellite customers who want to watch in a room without a receiver.
