Barbarian (2022)
A young woman shows up at a Detroit rental house and finds it's already been booked by a stranger. The awkward double booking turns out to be the least of her problems. Barbarian was written and directed by Zach Cregger, who went on to make Weapons, and it's built on twists, so go in knowing as little as possible.
It (2017)
This adaptation of Stephen King's novel follows a group of kids in Derry, Maine, as children start disappearing and an ancient evil, usually in the form of Pennywise the Dancing Clown, starts hunting them. It covers the childhood half of King's book and mixes supernatural scares with a coming-of-age story about friendship.
The Long Walk (2025)
Based on an early Stephen King novel first published under his Richard Bachman pen name, The Long Walk is set in a dystopian America where teenage boys enter a yearly endurance contest with one rule: keep walking. It's less about jump scares and more about dread, and at $1.99 it's the cheapest rental on the list.
